Anthon Berg is known worldwide for its liquor-filled chocolates. By pairing the finest chocolate with recognizable liqueurs, Anthon Berg has become the best place for dessert liqueurs. First started by Anthon Berg in Copenhagen in 1884 with a focus on quality, the company is still based in Denmark. Anthon Berg proudly wears the stamp, “Purveyor To Royal Danish Court” – a honor it received in 1957. The focus on quality is not only to products and ingredients, but also social impact. Anthon Berg is in partnership with NGOs and Danida, Denmark’s development corporation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In coalition with these two groups, Anthon Berg has worked to establish education projects in two cocoa producing districts in Ghana. One of the projects runs for at least three years educating untrained teachers, further training of teachers, and providing school materials. The other project establishes and supports Parent Teacher Associations, radio programs, and other efforts that provide focus and attention on child labor, children’s rights, and the importance of education. Thus, when purchasing from Anthon Berg, you are not only enjoying a delicious chocolate treat, but also helping those who contributed to the end product! All the chocolate recipes for the assortment of flavors are developed from scratch. The recipes are so perfect that it can be said that the chocolate makers at Anthon Berg are part-artists part-scientists. This means that every Anthon Berg chocolate has been carefully crafted for your pleasure.
As one of the oldest chocolate producers in Denmark, Anthon Berg has been producing the highest quality confections since 1884. The company is named for the man who started it: Anthon Berg. When chocolate first came to Denmark, it was used as a pharmaceutical product. Berg, who was a grocer, decided to sell it differently. He opened his shop in the Old Stand in Copenhagen which met with wild success. It was so popular among the upper and middle class people in Copenhagen that often long lines would form. In order to keep customers happy, Berg started handing out marzipan to patrons on line for free. It slowly became so popular that the marzipan itself became a product in 1898. This is what led Berg to adopt the saying, “Anthon Berg- you can never be too generous.” You can still hear people at the company quote this philosophy today! The company began with Anthon Berg and his son Gustav working in Copenhagen. In 1901, Gustav officially took over, ensuring that the company remains a family chocolate business. Today, the company is still majority owned by the Berg family. In combination with the family values and high standards, Anthon Berg produces the best chocolate liqueurs available.
