Balconi

Balconi is a premium snack cakes brand with a rich Italian history, unlike any other brand in the American snack cakes market. All Balconi products are free from artificial colors, preservatives, and hydrogenated fats. These delicious treats are offered in many forms and flavors such as tiramisu cakes, hazelnut rollinos, and rich, enrobed chocolate snack cakes.

Started in 1953, master baker Michele Balconi opened a “pasticceria” (pastry shop) in Milan, where the demand of sweets and original desserts was growing after the war. He had a clear vision: to offer simple and great tasting products made with high quality ingredients.

In 1970, Balconi industrialized their production, vastly growing the business. The investments continued the following decades, until 1997 when the plant reached the size it is today. Balconi currently has three production facilities in Italy, with the largest residing in Milan. Here, they produce more than six million sponge snacks, cakes, and rolls every day.

One of Balconi’s most important innovations was the production of hot melt creams, which made the product softer with a longer shelf life, while maintaining the flavor as if the product came fresh from Balconi’s ovens. They were the first in the industry to produce their own creams. Even today many cake producers still source their cream from external suppliers.

Balconi is also committed to environmental sustainability. Their products are certified by both the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and UTZ, and their first factory will soon be eco-friendly, able to produce the electricity necessary for production.
